Playing in the NCAA baseball tournament is a rare occurrence for teams from the state of Utah.
Most recently, the University of Utah reached the NCAAs in 2009. Before that, BYU played in the NCAA postseason in 2002. The gaps between NCAA appearances is large throughout history for teams in the state, even for the Cougars and Utes, who have both reached the College World Series.
This weekend, however, both BYU and Utah — as well as UVU — control their own destiny to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships and have proven this season they have the talent to do so.
