The Cougar defense came to the rescue as BYU escaped San Jose State with a 17-16 win late Friday night.

The BYU offense started off sharp with two sustained drives for touchdowns, but it stalled as an offensive line filled with backups was simply overmatched by the Spartan defense. And while the Cougar defense did bend now and again, it was that same defense that ultimately broke San Jose State's chance to beat BYU.
