PROVO — For years under former BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall, the team held firesides on the eve of games at an LDS church building near wherever they were playing the next day.
But under new coach Kalani Sitake, that’s one tradition — it started in 2005, in Mendenhall's first season as head coach — that’s gone away.
Sitake, his staff and his players are still doing firesides, but they’re held during the offseason. He didn’t want the distraction that comes with doing the services before games. The decision was made after discussing it with his players, Sitake said.
