PROVO — BYU easily built a 42-0 lead behind starting quarterback Tanner Mangum midway through the second quarter against Wagner on Saturday, allowing the Cougars ample playing opportunities for backup signal callers Beau Hoge and Koy Detmer Jr. in their 70-6 victory at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
While consideration must be given to the fact they faced an FCS opponent that entered the contest winless at 0-6, the true freshmen Hoge and Detmer nonetheless put up some solid numbers in their most extensive action of the year.
Hoge showed off his rushing abilities on his first drive, leading the Cougars 40 yards on a touchdown drive while rushing for 32 yards and a 2-yard score.
