BYU football: Scott Mitchell a fan of the changes being made on offense

"I think today BYU and Utah don't go after the same players, and I think BYU has done a great job with what they've had to work with. ... BYU is a Power-5 team without a conference," former Utah quarterback Scott Mitchell said of the BYU football program.

BYU offensive coordinator Ty Detmer made big changes to the offense his first year by implementing a pro-style system in place of former coordinator Robert Anae's spread. While the new offense certainly saw some growing pains during 2016, coaches intend to stay with the new system — believing it will ultimately match BYU's recruiting strengths while better preparing those same players for the NFL.
