BYU addressed one its most pressing needs for the 2019 season as Rice graduate transfer running back Emmanuel Esukpa announced his commitment to BYU on Tuesday night.
Esukpa will be immediately eligible in 2019 and be a redshirt senior.
Esukpa’s connection to BYU is through running backs coach AJ Steward. Steward was the running backs coach at Rice from 2014-2017 and helped recruit Esukpa there.
Eskupa doesn’t have eye-popping rushing numbers, but he’s a guy that will come in and be an immediate contributor. He ran for for 461 and yards 3 touchdown this past season, including two 100-plus yard performances in Rice’s first three games.
