PROVO — The BYU football program scored big on the transfer market on Monday with the announced additions of offensive linemen Tristen Hoge and James Empey.
Hoge is the cousin of current Cougar quarterback Beau Hoge and was a four-star prospect coming out of Pocatello, Idaho. The 6-foot-4, 303-pound lineman will have three years of eligibility as a redshirt sophomore, but will have to sit out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Hoge was part of the Notre Dame program for two years and played in six games during the 2016 season.
Empey is the son of BYU offensive line coach Mike Empey and elected to transfer to BYU after serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Portugal.
