BYU added a tight end to the mix Wednesday during early signing day with the signing of Carter Wheat.
Wheat hails from Mesa, Arizona, and is rated 79.43 on the 247 composite. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect had interest from Arizona and Arizona State but committed to BYU the day after he was offered in June and is part of the 2019 signing class.
At Red Mountain High School, which went 9-3 this season, Wheat caught 27 passes for 304 yards and one touchdown from the tight end spot.
Wheat is the son of former BYU offensive lineman Warren Wheat, who played for the Cougars from 1985-88.
