The 2017 preseason award watch lists began Monday morning, and BYU QB Tanner Mangum was named as a Maxwell Award candidate.
Mangum was 1 of 85 players on the list, which is given annually to the top player in college football. Mangum was one of 34 quarterbacks named.
Mangum was not named to the list last year, as the Maxwell committee instead gave the nod to presumed starter Taysom Hill.
Mangum is coming off a season in which he started one game, and saw action in five. For the season, Mangum completed 22 off 33 passes (66%) for 241 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, and 1 rushing touchdown.
