BYU football notes: Cougars use flea-flicker to take first-half lead

BYU freshman cornerback Austin McChesney intercepted a pass in the first quarter and returned it 37 yards to midfield. It was the Lone Peak High product's first career interception.

Later in the quarter, McChesney suffered a left knee sprain on a Cincinnati kickoff return and did not return to the game.

Season-ending injuries suffered by Travis Tuiloma and Merrill Taliauli and another injury to Tomasi Laulile have caused defensive line coach Steve Kaufusi to shuffle his defensive line almost weekly in the Cougars' first year playing out of a 4-3 alignment.

Senior Sae Tautu got the start at end on Saturday, and sophomore Moses Kaumatule was moved inside, pairing at tackle with senior Logan Taele, who grew up in nearby Columbus, Ohio.
