BYU football notebook: Utah State holds good memories for Cougar receiver Mitch Mathews

PROVO — Utah State and Cache Valley is a place BYU receiver Mitch Mathews doesn't mind visiting for a couple of reasons.

First would be how he performed against the Aggies during his last game played at Romney Stadium. In a 31-14 BYU win over Utah State back in 2013, the then-sophomore receiver hauled in a career-best five receptions for 112 yards and three touchdowns.

He's topped his single-game receptions and yardage marks since that game, but the three touchdowns, those remain a career-best for the senior.

"I had my first career touchdown last time we played at Utah State," Mathews recalled on Monday while expressing excitement for this Saturday's matchup when the Cougars again travel to Logan.
