BYU football notebook: Cougars administer full contact practice in hopes of rectifying run defense

PROVO — When assessing BYU's rush defense against UCLA last Saturday, the Cougars' linebackers coach didn't mince words.

“It was probably the worst performance that we’ve ever had,” Kelly Poppinga said. “I’m disappointed, embarrassed, as a program. It should never happen and it cost us the game in my opinion.”

The numbers put up against BYU's rush defense speak for themselves; 296 yards gained on just 38 attempts for a 7.8 yards per attempt average.

Those are numbers that are unacceptable in Poppinga's mind, as well as in the mind of any other Cougar coach.
