PROVO — BYU knew all about East Carolina’s two-quarterback system and prepared accordingly.
Most of the Cougars’ focus during the week was on Blake Kemp, a drop-back passer. But James Summers, a dual-threat QB, started the game and while he helped lead ECU to an early 14-0 lead, he was eventually replaced by Kemp late in the first half as the Cougars roared back to go up 28-14.
Kemp ended up completing 28 of 36 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns.
But BYU’s defense did enough to help preserve a 45-38 victory Saturday night.
