LINCOLN, Neb. — Bronco Mendenhall’s defense took punches in flurries Saturday against Nebraska in packed Memorial Stadium, but when it counted, the Cougar defenders made huge plays.
None was bigger than stopping Nebraska’s game-sealing drive in the final minute of BYU’s thrilling 33-28 win over the Huskers. BYU’s defense shut out Nebraska in the fourth quarter.
On Nebraska’s final drive of the game, junior quarterback Tommy Armstrong marched his team seven plays for 46 yards to BYU’s 22 and faced a third and 3. On handoff from Armstrong to Jamal Turner, Fred Warner, Michael Wadsworth and Graham Rowley caught Turner for a 2-yard loss.
