Former BYU coach Lavell Edwards has passed away at age 86, via the Salt Lake Tribune.
Edwards turned BYU football from mediocrity into a national powerhouse, winning a national championship and 19 conference titles in his 29 seasons as head coach. He is the 6th winningest coach in Division 1 history with 257 wins, and revolutionized football with his passing scheme.
His coaching tree includes 11 current or former collegiate and professional head coaches. He coached six All-American quarterbacks, and his offenses led the nation in total yards five times, and scoring offense three times.
