Las Vegas • If someone had told BYU basketball coach Dave Rose that he would get just one point from his bench, and every starter except Yoeli Childs would spend considerable time on the bench in foul trouble, he probably would not have predicted a Cougar victory on Saturday afternoon.
That's especially true because BYU faced Loyola Marymount, one of the deepest and most experienced teams in the league, in a West Coast Conference quarterfinal.
But somehow, the Cougars pulled it out, downing the upset-minded Lions 89-81 in a foul-filled contest at Orleans Arena.
Starters Eric Mika, Nick Emery, Elijah Bryant, TJ Haws and Yoeli Childs scored all but one of BYU's 89 points.
