PORTLAND, Ore. — BYU played catch up most of the game, and eventually fell to Portland 84-81 Saturday night at the Chiles Center, two days after an upset of No. 25 Gonzaga.
The Cougars (13-6, 5-2) went ahead 55-54 at the 11:10 mark in the second half to lead for the first time since being up 5-4. From there, the lead swung back and forth before the Pilots (9-11, 3-4) took control in the last few minutes. Nick Emery hit a 3-pointer to bring BYU within two points with 20 seconds on the clock, but the Cougars wouldn't get any closer.
