Malibu, Calif. • It's always a nail-biter when BYU and Pepperdine get together at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Saturday's showdown was no different, as the Waves took a 71-65 victory in a game that featured 17 ties and 18 lead changes.
The Cougars dropped to 5-3 in West Coast Conference play, 14-7 overall, and fell out of third place. Pepperdine improved to 6-3 and 13-7 with its third straight win over BYU at home.
BYU led 61-60 with just over three minutes left, but Pepperdine went on a 7-0 run to take control.
The Waves made four of their final six free throws to put it away.
