Yoeli Childs excelled inside for BYU against Cal-State Bakersfield on Thursday, finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 81-69 victory at the Marriott Center.
BYU (9-4) led by as many as 23 after getting out to a 19-4 lead early. But Bakersfield (8-5) used an 18-6 run to close the gap in the second half, though the Roadrunners never made it a single-digit game.
Nick Emery led the Cougars with 23 points and hit five 3-pointers. TJ Haws added 14 and five assists, while Eric Mika, dealing with foul trouble, added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
