BYU basketball: Cougars falter late, fall at Pepperdine, 71-65

Cold shooting and a pair of late Pepperdine runs lifted the Waves past BYU 71-65 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, California, on Saturday night.

The Waves built a game-high six-point lead on a 10-1 run with 5:23 to play, but the Cougars immediately countered with a 7-0 run to retake the lead.

Pepperdine then used a 9-2 run to build it back to a six-point edge at 67-61.

Chase Fischer pulled the Cougars within 67-65 with two free throws with 31 seconds remaining. Jett Raines hit two free throws to again make it a two-possession game and Fischers 3-point attempt was blocked on the ensuing possession.
