BYU baseball: Cougars will open with Cal State Fullerton at Stanford in NCAA regional

Provo • BYU will stay in the West in its first trip to the NCAA Baseball Tournament since 2002.

The West Coast Conference champion Cougars (37-19) received a No. 3 seed from the selection committee on Monday and will meet No. 2 seed California State Fullerton (34-21) on Thursday in Stanford, Calif., as part of the Stanford Regional.

The Cardinal (40-14) received the No. 1 seed in the regional and will host No. 4 Sacramento State (32-27), champions of the Western Athletic Conference.

The other 15 regionals will begin Friday and run through Sunday. Because of BYU's policy of not playing on Sundays, the Stanford Regional will begin Thursday and run through Saturday.
