BYU baseball: Cougars lose 13-2 in NCAA opener to Cal State Fullerton

Stanford, Calif. • BYU's first appearance in the NCAA baseball tournament since 2002 got off to a rough start Thursday afternoon as the Cougars fell to Cal State Fullerton, 13-2, at the Stanford Regional.

The Cougars will next play at noon MDT on Friday against the loser of Thursday's late Stanford-Sacramento State game.

The Titans jumped on BYU starting pitcher Brady Corless from the beginning with three runs in the bottom of the first. In the third, Dillon Persinger led off with a single, stole second and was bunted over to third. Hank LoForte hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
