SALT LAKE CITY — Like an unimpeded drive to the hoop, the Utah-BYU basketball series rumbled through Salt Lake, Wednesday, happy for its moment in the limelight. The football rivalry has been on a two-year hiatus, so basketball has taken responsibility, playing through the upheaval in college sports.
Football is hindered by tight schedules and postseason considerations. Basketball plays 30-something games a year.
So the schools matched up for the 257th time, with Utah winning 83-75.
It wasn’t a classic. Part of it was as suspenseful as a cartoon. Roadrunner cartoons, specifically. In the first half it wasn’t hard to see who was dead-falling off a cliff.
