Back from major injuries, BYU's Warner looking to be a playmaker, leader on defense

After months of adversity and recovery, Warner has returned and he is expected to be a major contributor on the Cougar defense this fall.

“(Fred) is improving. He’s growing and starting to emerge as a playmaker.”

PROVO — As BYU outside linebacker Fred Warner lay in pain on the frozen turf at LaVell Edwards Stadium last November, the first thing he did was determine if he could move his arms and legs.

Warner had movement in his extremities, but he had fractured his back following a violent collision during the UNLV game.

His impressive freshman season was suddenly over.
