An argument between a man and his father led up to a South Salt Lake stabbing

A man called South Salt Lake police on Monday night to report that he had just stabbed his father in the heart.

Police arrived and found the man’s father, 65-year-old Richard Phelps, dead in an apartment he shared with his son near 2700 South and 300 East.

Officers arrested the son, 38-year-old Warren Richard Phelps, who told police that he had stabbed his father with a knife, according to arrest documents.

An argument — which involved a television — led up to the stabbing, according to a news release from South Salt Lake police.
