BYU’s defense has overall done a nice job under Kalani Sitake and DC Ilaisa Tuiaki. BYU has won a lot of games, including 11 last season and a 7-2 start to this year. BYU has largely gone with a drop 8 approach to limit big plays, and it has worked well and kept opponents scoring low.
We haven’t seen the “Sack Lake City” defense that was coined at Utah when Kalani was defensive coordinator, largely because BYU hasn’t had the horses at defensive line. DT Khyiris Tonga is the only BYU defensive lineman that has been drafted under Kalani, and no defensive ends have really been under NFL consideration.
