NEW YORK – Can a college basketball game be over in five seconds?
Maybe not. It can be over in five minutes, though.
Villanova sank a 3-pointer before five seconds elapsed, then bolted to a 19-0 lead in the first five minutes before beating Butler 87-68 Friday night in a semifinal of the Big East basketball tournament.
Mikal Bridges scored 18 points and Jalen Brunson 17 for Villanova, which sank 14 3-pointers.
The Bulldogs (20-13) in no way resembled the team that upset then-No. 1 Villanova on Dec. 30 or won their first Big East tournament game Thursday night, beating Seton Hall 75-74.
