INDIANAPOLIS – Butler is attempting to make the recruiting equivalent of a basketball buzzer-beater.
Jamarius Burton, a 6-5 guard from Charlotte, N.C., is visiting the Butler and Wichita State campuses this weekend. Burton, a high school senior, previously made official visits to Temple, Massachusetts and George Mason.
“The kid is very underrated,” said Preston Davis, his coach at Independence High School.
Burton led Independence to North Carolina’s Class 4A (largest schools) championship and was MVP of the state finals. For the season, he averaged 16.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
Davis said Independence (31-1) had a balanced team and thus Burton did not post big numbers.
