INDIANAPOLIS – To mark the 50th anniversary of Tony Hinkle’s retirement from coaching, Butler University is welcoming more than 50 of his former athletes back to campus. They will be introduced during Saturday games in football (Valparaiso, noon) and basketball (Wofford, 8 p.m.)
In 1965, Hinkle was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame not as a coach, but as a contributor. He won more than 1,000 games in football, basketball and baseball from 1926-70.
He died Sept. 21, 1992, at age 93, and is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.
