The high school superstar, humble Butler player who was loved by Tony Hinkle

He's hoisting Tony Hinkle above his shoulders after the coach clenched his 500th win. Lon Showley is beaming, Hinkle is grasping his shoulder, Showley is grasping Hinkle's pant leg, revealing the Butler coach's white socks and shiny black shoes.

He's at the Indianapolis Athletic Club invited as the sole player on the Butler team to speak about Hinkle on the day declared by Indianapolis Mayor John Barton as "Tony Hinkle Day."

Showley wasn't Hinkle's best player those four years inside Butler Fieldhouse in the 1960s, nowhere near the superstar he'd been in high school. But after Butler downed 3rd-ranked Michigan during Showley's senior year, an article showed up in the newspaper all about this humble player.
