Seton Hall had to withstand hot 3-point shooting by Butler freshmen Myles Tate and Chuck Harris to secure a 68-60 victory in Big East basketball Saturday at Newark, N.J.
The depleted Bulldogs cut a 12-point deficit to one on three occasions in the second half but could never seize the lead. Jair Bolden’s 3-pointer pulled Butler within 58-56 with 2:42 left.
Butler (2-5, 1-3) is off to its worst seven-game start since it was also 2-5 in 1992-93. Seton Hall (8-4, 5-1) is the third-most experienced team in the six power conferences.
Tate was 5-of-8 on 3s and Harris 3-of-4.
