INDIANAPOLIS – While in the Horizon League, Butler defied odds by earning three at-large bids to the NCAA basketball tournament: 2003, 2007 and 2009. That’s because the Bulldogs compiled such a strong nonleague resume.
They are no longer dependent on that nonleague slate. When Selection Sunday arrives, Big East play has boosted Butler’s strength of schedule.
That’s why playing four opponents outside the Top 200, according to kenpom.com, will not do much harm to Butler’s resume. The fourth team, Western Illinois, visits Hinkle Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
