I am reminded of what former Butler coach Brad Stevens often stated: You are never as good as you think you are in victory, nor as bad as you think you are in defeat.
At 2-5 in the Big East, the state of Butler basketball is bad. Good seasons can go bad.
I have covered Butler since 2001 but am also influenced by decades of following Illinois, my alma mater. The Fighting Illini were 15-0 in 1979 after upsetting No. 1 Michigan State, the eventual NCAA champion. The Illini were 4-11 thereafter and did not play in the postseason.
