VILLANOVA, Pa. – Butler had beaten Villanova once before, back on Jan. 4 when the Wildcats were ranked No. 1. That was then. This was now.
Villanova was still a 10-point favorite, defending NCAA champion, winner of seven in a row and featuring a 48-game winning streak inside its Pavilion. Nova’s seniors were 45-0 here. No one could have forecast this.
Except for Avery Woodson. Sometimes in sports, you just know.
“I had a special vibe this morning when I woke up,” the graduate transfer said. “I just felt extremely blessed, you know, to be here at Butler, represent this program, wear this jersey and have an opportunity to play for one of the best teams in the nation.
