NEW YORK — Because St. John’s is the midst of a 14-game losing streak, it would be easy to disregard Butler’s 89-56 victory in Big East basketball Saturday.
Don’t do it.
For one thing, triple-doubles don’t often occur at Butler. Not for 32 years, in fact.
Roosevelt Jones had 10 points, 14 rebounds (a career high) and 10 assists (one off a career high). He became the first Bulldog with a triple-double since Tim McRoberts had 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Oral Roberts on Feb. 20, 1984.
Butler coach Chris Holtmann acknowledged assistant coaches brought it to his attention that Jones needed one more assist, so he left him in long enough to get one – a pass to Jackson Davis for a layup.
