Triumph was muted by more tragedy in Butler’s basketball family.
The Bulldogs held off Georgetown 87-76 Tuesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse behind Kelan Martin’s career-high 35 points. That was the most scored by a Butler player since Matthew Graves’ 42 against Cleveland State on Jan. 15, 1998.
The Bulldogs did so while grieving the death of the infant son of Emerson Kampen, a former Butler player who is now on staff as basketball analyst.
Coach Chris Holtmann made the announcement at Butler’s postgame news conference, halting several times to compose himself.
“What an amazing little kid,” Holtmann said.
