INDIANAPOLIS – Can you give up a 26-3 run to the nation’s No. 6 team, fall behind by 13 points with eight minutes left, and still win in college basketball?
If you are the Butler Bulldogs, the opponent is Creighton and the venue is Hinkle Fieldhouse, the answer is: Yes.
Butler scored the final eight points of overtime, five by freshman guard Myles Tate, and scored an improbable 70-66 victory Saturday in the Big East.
Creighton is the highest-ranked opponent beaten by the Bulldogs since a 101-93 upset of Villanova here on Dec. 30, 2017.
Denzel Mahoney scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half for Creighton (6-2, 10-3).
