Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward has turned down an invitation to play for the U.S. team at the Rio Olympic Games, citing "family obligations."
The former Brownsburg High School and Butler player and his wife, Robyn, have a 1-year-old daughter. In a statement, Hayward said they are expecting a second child this summer.
"I am immensely grateful to USA Basketball for the opportunity and I hope I have the opportunity to represent my country in the future," the statement said.
He has been involved in USA Basketball since helping the organization win a gold medal in the under-20 World Championship at Auckland, New Zealand, in 2009.
