Chrabascz leads hot-shooting Butler over Vermont

INDIANAPOLIS — Vermont coach John Becker was keenly aware of what Andrew Chrabascz could do with a basketball in his hands. The Catamounts tried to keep the native New Englander home until Chrabascz “kind of blew up on the AAU circuit,” Becker said.

Chrabascz kind of blew up Wednesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The 6-7 senior from Portsmouth, R.I., scored 28 points — two off his career high — as No. 13 Butler shot 57 percent in an 81-69 victory. It was Butler’s 35th consecutive nonconference home win and completed an 11-1 preconference schedule.

It was also the 100th coaching victory for Chris Holtmann, who is 100-77 in three seasons at Gardner-Webb and two-plus at Butler.
