INDIANAPOLIS – Kamar Baldwin scored 30 points and Jordan Tucker 24, propelling Butler over St. John’s 80-71 Saturday in Big East basketball before a sellout of 9,212 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 22 points after a 17-2 run in the second half. St. John’s came as close as four points, 73-69, in the final minute.
Shamorie Ponds and Mustapha Heron scored 20 each for the Red Storm.
The outcome capped a critical two-win week for the Bulldogs (12-7, 3-3). St. John’s (15-4, 3-4) had lost its previous four games at Hinkle by an average of 23 points.
