Buzzer breakdown: Butler falls flat in Providence, finishes regular season in Big East cellar

For the first time since 1990, Butler has finished a college basketball conference in last place.

If things don’t change, the season will be finished soon.

Providence led by 24 points in the first half and went on to beat the visiting Bulldogs 83-70 Saturday in a game closing the Big East regular season.

Butler and Providence thus tie for last in the Big East at 7-11. DePaul, with a late game at Creighton, could make it a three-way tie if it loses.

Butler lost to Providence twice and beat DePaul twice. Seeding for the Big East tournament will not be resolved until late Saturday.
