Eric Day and Andrew Smith were not close friends while students at Butler University. They connected with each other later, though, because they fought a similar opponent:
Cancer.
Butler’s third annual “Stay Positive Day,” held in conjunction with the Bulldogs’ game against St. John’s at noon Saturday, will be poignant because it comes four days after Smith died. He was 25.
Day, 24, a two-time cancer survivor, started the Stay Positive organization as a response to his own experience.
