USA Basketball and the Big East announced Tuesday a select team of men's basketball players from the conference will represent the United States at the 2019 Pan American Games. It marks the first time a Division I conference will field a team for this competition.
Providence College's Ed Cooley, who has coached with USA Basketball before and is a member of the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee, will be the team's head coach.

"We are very honored to have been chosen by the NCAA and USA Basketball to represent the United States in this prestigious competition," said Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman, president of USA Basketball from 2005-08, in a release.
