INDIANAPOLIS – Butler held Providence to four 3-point baskets, and four freshmen combined for 38 points as the Bulldogs ended the Friars’ seven-game Big East winning streak Wednesday night 70-64 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Butler (2-3, 1-1) stopped a three-game losing streak despite playing a third successive game without injured point guard Aaron Thompson. It was the fourth game in eight days for the Bulldogs, whose next game is Dec. 30 at Providence.
Until a rainbow 3-pointer as the game ended, the Friars (5-3, 1-1) shot 1-of-12 on 3s in the second half. They were 4-of-26 for the game (15%).
