Butler first team to beat Purdue this season with Crossroads Classic victory

Butler continued its Bankers Life Fieldhouse magic on Saturday.

Point guard Tyler Lewis scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half, and the 17th-ranked Bulldogs held off a rally by No. 9 Purdue to win 74-68 in the Crossroads Classic.

Freshman forward Caleb Swanigan had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Purdue (11-1). A.J. Hammons scored 12 points, all in the second half.

Lewis also finished with six rebounds and four assists. Butler’s Roosevelt Jones added 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Lewis’ two free throws with 20.9 seconds left expanded Butler’s lead to 72-68 and secured the outcome.
