Butler falls way behind, but finishes inches away from improbable comeback vs. Marquette

Butler was tantalizingly close but ultimately saw its Big East basketball losing streak extend to three.

Jair Bolden missed a potential tying 3-pointer just before the buzzer, and Marquette held on to beat the Bulldogs 70-67 Tuesday night at Milwaukee.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 4-8) trailed by 18 points midway through the second half and by 14 with little more than four minutes left. Bolden’s 3-pointer trimmed that to 69-67 with 18 seconds left.

After Marquette’s Koby McEwen made one of two free throws, the Bulldogs had a chance to send the game into overtime.
