NEW YORK – So much for Butler’s Big East road miseries and Kamar Baldwin’s shooting slump.
Not a bad way to spend New Year’s Eve in New York City. Not that the Bulldogs want to reprise this one.
The 10th-ranked Bulldogs blew all of a 23-point lead, fell behind by five, and then recovered to beat St. John’s 60-58 in a Big East opener Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena.
The Bulldogs’ mantra has been to trust their teammates, and never was that more in evidence than in the closing minute. Baldwin had an open look but instead passed into the right corner to Christian David, who had been 5-of-20 on 3-pointers this season.
