MILWAUKEE – Butler limited turnovers and held NCAA scoring leader Markus Howard to 17 points, well under his average.
Ordinarily, that would be the formula to beat Marquette. Except the 19th-ranked Bulldogs couldn’t make shots or stop Marquette from making them.
Marquette was 21-of-28 on free throws and made 11 3-pointers, beating Butler 76-57 in a Big East basketball matinee Sunday at Fiserv Forum.
Brendan Bailey and Koby McEwen were a collective 8-of-11 on 3s, and they made back-to-back-to-back baskets from the arc to expand Marquette’s eight-point lead to 17 late in the game. Bailey and McEwen scored 16 points each.
