Butler basketball opts out of tourney, prepares for smallest schedule in 53 years

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler is finalizing what will be its shortest regular-season basketball schedule in more than a half-century.

The Bulldogs have pulled out of the Fort Myers Tip-Off, a source confirmed to IndyStar. That tournament was scheduled for Nov. 25-27 and was also to include Colorado, Wisconsin and South Florida. Colorado has also opted.

Butler is not expected to participate in another tournament and is thus confined to a 25-game schedule. An NCAA oversight committee last week announced teams may play a maximum of 25 regular-season games if they do not participate in a multi-team event.

Including a tournament, teams are permitted up to 27 games.
