INDIANAPOLIS – Butler has backed away from its initial plan and will limit Hinkle Fieldhouse capacity to 1,500 for Wednesday’s basketball season opener against Western Michigan.
The announcement Monday came at a time most other college programs are allowing few or no fans because of concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
Notre Dame announced Monday that attendance would be limited to guests of players and coaches. Big Ten programs are not allowing fans, either. The only other Big East school to announce it would have fans is Xavier, which is limiting attendance to 300.
Butler was approved for 25% capacity by Marion County’s health department, amounting to 2,275 at the 9,100-seat fieldhouse.
